They Met on a Bus. Winnie & Willis’ Engagement Session

April 8th, 2011 by admin No comments »

With every couple that I shoot, I’m lucky enough to make new friends through it all.  I can’t help but get excited when people get married.  So when two friends decide to tie the knot, and I get asked to be part of their day as a photographer.  It’s pretty awesome! What an honour!

Meet Willis & Winnie - they met at school, learning to teach school.  It’s a “perfect timing” kind of story, because despite going to all the same schools growing up, even studying the same things in university, then graduating in the ceremony…  it wasn’t till they both were studying to be teachers that their paths finally crossed.

Winnie explains it as Willis not walking fast enough to catch the early bus. So they shared a ride back home from school… getting to know each other better…  the sparks came later.

When you hear about their first “date”.  It’s a story like so many can relate to where a group outing unexpectedly turns into a one-on-one because everyone else can’t make it.  It was fright nights at the PNE followed by 3 hours of chatting at Tim Hortons.  How awesome is that… I’m sure most of us can relate. and the sparks started the fire that’s still burning.

When deciding on locations, Winnie and Willis choose to do their photos in Queen Elizabeth Park, after all, it’s where Willis proposed and there’s a story behind it.  I love stories!

It was such a blast shooting them, they were such naturals at everything.  They made my job easy!

I can’t wait till their wedding this August!

We had to spend some time where Willis proposed.

I told them that I’d count to 3 and they had to make a face for me.  They wouldn’t know what the other did till they got the photo.  1, 2, 3… :)

I just love this shot. :)

Unproductiveness, lent and blue trees.

March 31st, 2011 by admin No comments »

when you work freelance. it’s all about self-motivation. today, unfortunately wasn’t one of those days.

i remember waking up, feeling that morning inspiration and motivation, sitting at my desk. and the next thing i know large segments of time pass without a drop of productivity.  it’s now 10pm and it’s as if i was just waiting for the night to wipe the day clean with a fresh canvas tomorrow.

normally, i’m pretty good at catching myself in these ruts and hitting my reset button. the television.. it’s usually fool proof. unfortunately this time, i don’t seem to have access to it.

see, i decided to challenge myself and give up tv for lent. it’s a part self-sacrifice, part time-creation plan.  the whole intention behind it is to free up time for quiet time with God and to relate (just a little bit) to the unmeasureable sacrifice of christ. so since ash wednesday till easter i’m off the juice – cold turkey.

and when i say juice. i really mean it. i live and breathe tv. it’s my biggest time suck, and im super happy catching up on ALL my shows. (sidenote: in university, i pitched an idea for a paper that TV made you smarter but had to switch topics since I couldn’t find any research).

i wonder if when this is all over, how i will revert back to my usual ways. or will i be better for it. only time will tell.

to end things off on a random sidenote. there are some blue trees in the park next to our home. here’s a quick iphone snap. :p
